YOUR ROLE AS DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING (DACH)

As Director of Engineering (DACH), you will lead and oversee engineering and maintenance operations across our hotel portfolio in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

You will define standards, ensure compliance, and drive operational excellence, while supporting on-property teams in delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality technical operations.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Strategic & Regional Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee engineering operations across multiple hotels in the DACH region

  • Develop and implement regional maintenance strategies, standards, and SOPs

  • Ensure all building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire safety, BMS) are operated efficiently and safely

  • Drive CAPEX planning, budgeting, forecasting, and cost control

  • Lead sustainability initiatives, energy optimization, and ESG projects

  • Manage external vendors, service contracts, and procurement strategies

  • Oversee renovations, refurbishments, and new openings across the region

  • Build, mentor, and guide engineering teams across all properties

Operational Excellence & Compliance (Key Focus for Germany)

  • Ensure strict compliance with German and DACH regulations (including fire safety, DGUV, building codes, and technical inspections)

  • Standardize and monitor planned preventive maintenance (PPM) across all hotels

  • Ensure all properties properly:

    • Perform maintenance, repairs, and technical inspections

    • Monitor and operate technical systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire safety, BMS)

    • Troubleshoot technical issues efficiently to minimize guest impact

  • Oversee statutory inspections, audits, and safety checks across the portfolio

  • Ensure accurate documentation, maintenance logs, and compliance records are maintained

  • Guarantee proper management of tools, spare parts, and technical equipment

  • Implement and monitor emergency procedures and crisis management readiness

Collaboration & Support

  • Work closely with General Managers and department heads to ensure safe operations and guest satisfaction

  • Support and guide hotel engineering teams in daily operations and technical challenges

  • Oversee and coordinate external contractors and service providers

Job requirements

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Leadership & Expertise

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facility Management, or a related field (Master’s preferred)

  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in engineering leadership, ideally in hospitality or multi-site environments

  • Proven experience managing multiple properties or regional operations

Technical & Compliance Focus (Critical for DACH)

  • Strong technical background across building systems (electrical, HVAC, mechanical, TGA)

  • Deep understanding of German safety regulations, DGUV standards, fire protection, and compliance requirements

  • Experience with PPM structures, audits, and regulatory inspections

  • Strong knowledge of building automation systems and energy management

Personal Skills

  • Hands-on, solution-oriented, and proactive mindset

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently and drive initiatives across multiple locations

  • Strong leadership and team development capabilities

  • Excellent communication skills in an international environment

  • Fluent in German and English

  • Willingness to travel across the DACH region
